Answer: B. 1 and 3
The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, which opens into the Arabian Sea and onward to the Indian Ocean. So, any country located inside the Persian Gulf must pass through Hormuz to reach the Indian Ocean.
Bahrain (item 1) and Qatar (item 3) are located within the Persian Gulf, so ships from these countries have to cross the Strait of Hormuz to reach the Indian Ocean.
Syria (item 2) lies on the Mediterranean Sea and Egypt (item 4) lies on the Mediterranean and Red Seas, so ships from neither country need to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
Items 1 and 3 are correct, so the answer is Option (b).
