The North Pole is inclined towards the sun and places beyond the Arctic Circle experience continuous daylight for about six months. It is summer in the regions north of the equator. The longest day and the shortest night occur on 21st June in the Northern Hemisphere.
The Tropic of Cancer (23.5°N) receives more than 12 hours of sunlight. The Arctic Circle and beyond receive more than 12 hours (up to 24 hours) of sunlight.
The Equator receives exactly 12 hours of sunlight throughout the year. The Tropic of Capricorn, being in the Southern Hemisphere, experiences winter on June 21 with less than 12 hours of sunlight.
