Show answer

Answer: A. 1 only

Verdict

The answer is 1 only. The 2015 India-Africa Summit was the third such summit, but the series was not initiated by Nehru in 1951.

Analysis

Statement 1 is CORRECT. The third India-Africa Forum Summit was held in New Delhi in October 2015, the previous two having been held in New Delhi in 2008 and in Addis Ababa in 2011. Statement 2 is INCORRECT. The Forum Summit format began in 2008, and although Nehru was central to Afro-Asian solidarity through the Asian Relations Conference and later Bandung and the Non-Aligned Movement, those were different processes and none of them founded this summit series.

How to crack it

Test statement 2 against the internal arithmetic of statement 1. If the 2015 meeting was the third and summits were held in 2008 and 2011, the series cannot date from 1951, so the two statements constrain each other and only one can stand. Using one statement to check another is often faster than verifying both independently. Then keep Nehru's actual Afro-Asian initiatives separate, since they are examinable in their own right.
