Consider the following pairs:
National Highway : Cities connected
1. NH4 : Chennai and Hyderabad
2. NH6 : Mumbai and Kolkata
3. NH15 : Ahmedabad and Jodhpur
Which of the above pairs is/are correctly matched?
Show answer
Answer: D. None
Verdict
The answer is none. All three national highway and city pairs are wrong under the old numbering the question uses.
Analysis
Pair 1 is INCORRECT. Old NH4 ran from Mumbai through Pune and Bengaluru to Chennai, so a Chennai to Hyderabad description does not fit it. Pair 2 is INCORRECT as stated. Old NH6 ran from Hazira in Gujarat, near Surat, through Nagpur to Kolkata, so describing it as connecting Mumbai and Kolkata misstates its western terminus. Pair 3 is INCORRECT. Old NH15 ran along the western border from Pathankot through Rajasthan towards Kandla and did not link Ahmedabad with Jodhpur as a defining pair.

How to crack it
Highway questions are testing the terminal cities, so store each corridor by its two ends rather than by the states it crosses. Note that the numbering used here is the pre 2010 system, and the current numbering is entirely different, so treat old highway questions as historical. When every pair in a matching set looks approximately right but not exactly right, check the endpoints one by one, because approximately right is how the None option is set up.
